We are about 60 days out from our trip to Disneyland…so what does that mean? It means….DINING RESERVATIONS!! As I get ready to make our dining reservations I came across a new feature at Disneyland California Adventure World of Color Dessert Party. That’s right eat some delicious dessert while watching World of Color in a special seating area. I was rejoicing! Finally a special World of Color viewing area that included SEATS, places to SIT! So I began to look more deeply into the cost and discovered that the cost is $79 per person, for dessert. Now don’t get me wrong Disney offers some of the most fabulous dessert and their dessert plates are always spectacular with cheese and everything, as we have experienced in the past when we did the dessert and hot chocolate while watching Fantastmic.
Then it occurred to me, maybe we should look at the cost of World of Color Dining, again. We had used this option several times, but there is no special seating it was just a ticket for a special standing section. So the question came down to…what is a seat worth?
I will base this analysis on a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 kids, one over 9 and one under 9. There are three options for World of Color Dining:
- Ariel’s Grotto (dinner)
- Wine Country Trattoria (lunch or dinner)
- Carthay Circle Restaurant (lunch or dinner)
The cost for World of Color Dessert Party for 4 is $316 (includes tax and gratuity). Now let’s look at each of the dining options and what a seat is costing you per person.
Restaurant |
Dining Costplus est. tax (8%)/gratuity(20%) |
Total Difference |
Ariel’s Grotto (dinner) | $220 | $96 |
Wine Country Trattoria (lunch) | $162 | $154 |
Wine Country Trattoria (dinner) | $220 | $96 |
Carthay Circle Restaurant (lunch) | $200 | $116 |
Carthay Circle Restaurant (dinner) | $289 | $27 |
Looking at the numbers, the only time the cost comes close is when you eat dinner at the Carthay Circle Restaurant. At any other time, you are paying nearly $100 for sitting to watch the show. I think it really comes down to your preference and what experience you want to have. As for my family, we are undecided. We have eaten at Ariel’s Grotto, and Wine Country Trattoria with the tickets to watch the show and that’s fine. Maybe we will pay the extra cost and try sitting this time. ~
