Disneyland Closures due to Star Wars Land Expansion

I am very excited about the addition of Star Wars Land to Disneyland, but with change comes sacrifice and it is important that you know what is happening while this expansion takes place. The following Disneyland attractions are closed until the construction is complete sometime in 2017:

  • Disneyland Railroad
  • Mark Twain Riverboat
  • Sailing Ship Columbia
  • Fantasmic
  • Tom Sawyer Island
  • Davy Crockett’s Canoes

Even thought the railroads are closed, it has been rumored that you will be able to stop by the stations and chat with the engineers about the amazing engines that power these trains and some of the fabulous history behind Walt’s favorite part of the park.

Other Refurbishments

In addition, because Walt’s vision was an ever changing Disneyland, there are other updates going on.

  • Jungle Cruise – The “Jingle” is being removed along with some refurbishments. Have not seen a date for reopening. One site reported April of 2016
  • Autopia – This original ride is getting an update. I’ve not found any specific details about this updated other than it appears that Honda will be the sponsor (reported by Houseplant in November). Here’s hoping for some exciting changes to this only original ride in Tomorrowland!
  • Soarin’ Over California – This is going to be closed off and on as they update it to the new ride which features a ride around the world!

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

Enough about closures…let’s talk about what is opening this year. After Lugi’s Flying Tires was closed last year I have been anxiously awaiting the new ride. Well…it is closer than ever. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters is thought to be open in early 2016, possibly March!
